Lucent varnish is a kind of paint used for protecting and decorating in embellishing presswork. It is used in advanced processing after printing and manufacturing of packing materials. We can get some paper coated with thin, well-distributed and transparent lucent vamish. With this coat, the presswork can become beautiful and shining. And its capabilities of protecting itself against humidity, dirt, fold, and attrition is also improved. Because the paper with lucent vamish can be recycled, we can resolve the problem of pollution of plastic-covered paper. As a kind of economical resource, this vamish meets the requirements of environmental protection. In recent years, it has been rapidly used in book cover, refined pictures, advertisements, gift bags, and wrapping boxes. In glazing area, water-soluble vamish, which is friendly to environment, turns into the research focus in recent years. Now Johnson 72# and 73# are accepted as the best water-soluble vamish, and are applied widely in glazing area.Regarding Johnson 72# and 73# as the standard, the purpose of this work is to manufacture water-soluble vamish which is friendly to the environment Through searching literatures and products investigation, we propose a new project: Synthesize the water-soluble vamish with acrylates. After many experiments, the experimental program was set: the polymeric monomers are MMA and BA. the functional monomer is AA, the interlaced monomer is HPA. the initiator is NH4SP;and the manner is semi-continuous adding monomers and core-shell emulsion polymerization. Finally, we get a high stabilization lucent vamish. The best polymerization conditions are that: The ratio of soft monomer to hard monomer is 0 70o.80, the dosage of emulsifier is 2.4%, the dosage of initiator is 0.25%;and temperature is 8085℃, adding monomer time is 1.52.5h, time of heat preservation is 3040 min.. We measured the performances of the latex, such as stability, transforming rate of the monomers, the content of solidified matter, mucosity, rheology. We also measured the performances of the membrane, such as rate of absorbing water, drying time, dirtied rate, cling power, rigidity, ability of resisting chemical. Then we studied the effects to the latex and membrane coming from some factors. For exampte, the dosage of pH regulator, emulsifier, and initiator, and whisking power, polymerization temperature, and so on. The experimental result proves that the synthesis performance isn't under some well-known brand product and some of the performances are better than it.
