Hydrophobically associating polymer (HAP) is a favorable polymer at present, which is the characteristics of salt, thermal and shear tolerances. Its unique properties have made it the trend and direction of the future development of polymer in the world oil industry, especially in the field of tertiary oil recovery.Nowadays, most research results have shown that, macroscopically, blow the Critical Association Concentration (CAC), infra-molecular association will occur the HAP solution; while above CAC, intermolecular association occurs instead, forming dynamically physical cross-linked network structure in the HAP solution .As a result, the fluid mechanical volume is increased, as well as the viscosity of the solution.Due to the existence of network structure of the associating polymer , there are many questions acquainted and settled before this kind of polymer were extended and applied cosmically. mainly includes: associating polymer molecular structure and the network structure formed how to influence its rheology characteristics and visco-elasticity and what difference of rheology characteristics and visco-elasticity it is between associating polymer structure solution and high molecular weight PAM solution; what difference of rheology characteristics in porous medium and visco-elasticity it is between associating polymer structure solution and high molecular weight PAM solution; How does viscoelasticity of associating polymer solution contribute to displacement efficiency?For resolving and understanding the above-mentioned problem, the present paper embarked from the associating polymer structure solution characteristic, has studied following several aspects:1st, studied the influence of different concentration, salinity and temperature on the rheology characteristics and visco-elasticity of associating polymer and high molecular weight PAM solution of two kind of different molecular structures;2nd, studied the rheology characteristics and visco-elasticity of associating polymer and high molecular weight PAM solution of different molecular structures in the porous medium;3rd, studied displacement efficiency of associating polymer solution and xanthan solution that have the same apparent viscosity in the porous medium, confirmed viscoelasticity...
