The hydrophobically associating water-solution polymer is a kind of water-soluble polymer with a few hydrophobic groups in the hydrophilic molecular chain. Due to hydrophobic associating interaction, the hydrophobically associating water-solution polymer display different solution properties from the common water-soluble polymers.At present, the reported hydrophobically associating water-solution polymer is random copolymer that is synthesized through free radical copolymerization with water-soluble alkenes monomer and oil-soluble alkenes monomer. Change hydrophobic group types, then constitute the different type hydrophobically associating water-solution polymer. This kind of hydrophobically associating water-solution polymer's hydrophobic groups is in the molecular chain, The freedom of hydrophobic groups is relative small, the long chain sterically hindrance will prevent hydrophobic groups' associating, this will cause its associating insufficiently. Water-soluble alkenes monomer and oil-soluble alkenes monomer proportion and the distribution in the molecular chain are difficulty controlled because the reactivity ratio difference of the water-soluble monomer and oil-soluble monomer is very big. So it is also difficult to further research the relations between polymer's structure and the solution property.This article has designed the series hydrophobically associating water-solution polymer that the hydrophobic groups are on the chain's end. This polymer takes the water-soluble macro-molecule chain as a primary chain, connects the hydrophobic groups with the end of the hydrophilic chain. The hydrophobic groups of this polymer are on the chain's end, the freedom of hydrophobic groups is relative larger, so it is advantageous to associating of the hydrophobic groups. Change water-soluble principal chain molecular weight and the hydrophobic group size, can change the performance of polymer. Moreover, this kind of polymer structure, the molecular weight and proportion of the hydrophobic groups could be controlled easily. It can lay the foundation for the further study the relations between hydrophobically associating water-solution polymer's structure and the solution property.The paper first synthesizes the hydrophobic chain by 1,6-hexandiol and sebacic, then devises and synthesizes the End-hydrophobic groups hydrophobically associating water-soluble polymer, block hydrophobically associating water-soluble polymer, and star hydrophobically associating water-soluble polymer based on the 2,4-diisocyanatocuene, polyoxyethylene, senior alcohol, and the synthesized hydrophobic chain. Their structure was testifying by Infrared Spectra and evaluates the hydrophobically associating interaction though viscosity.We investigated how the properties of the end-hydrophobic groups hydrophobically associating water-soluble polymer solution are affected by polymer concentration, polymer's structure and constitute, salt types and intensity, temperature, the pH value, surfactant and shearing etc.
