Fatty acid methyl ester sulfonate, substitutor of LAS, is a new type of anion surfactant, which is mild and has good surface activation, and possesses such advantages as good washing ability, good foaming ability, and good soap dispersion. It is a type of surfactant which can be produced from reproducible resource and is environmentally-friendly.Synthesis of Fatty acid methyl ester sulfonate catalyzed by solid acid was studied in this paper. Several solid acid, such as SO42-/SnO2,SO42-/Fe2O3,SO42-/TiO2, has been prepared, and the optimum preparation condition were as follows: 2mol·L-1H2SO4, dipping time was 1h, baking temperature was 550℃, and baking time was 3h.Using stearic acid, palmitic acid, myristic acid, and lauric acid as raw materials, the fatty acid methyl ester was prepared catalyzed by solid acid, the Fatty acid methyl ester sulfonate was obtained by sulfonated with chlorosulfonic acid, blanched with hydrogen peroxide. Products were charactened by IR. The effects of solid acid on esterification reaction were studied and the optimum esterification and sulfonation condition were defined. The optimum esterification conditions were as following: molar ratio of acid and methanol was 1: 6, dosage of catalyst was 1% of acid and methanol, refluxing for 20h, the translation ratio could reach 90%; while the optimum sulfonation conditions were as following: chloroform as solvent, molar ratio of methyl and chlorosulfonic acid was 1:1.5, refluxing for lh, aging for lh, esterification again, blanched by 5ml hydrogen peroxide, and then the concentration of active matter was about 50%.Several surface activation, such as solvency, surface tension and cmc value, emulsification ability, foaming ability and stability of foamof fatty acid methyl ester sulfonates, were also explored.
