The intercalation of cationic surfactants was into Na-MMT was investigated by reacting of Na-MMT with HDAC1 and CTAB, and the exchange capacity of surfactant was from 0.5 to 4 . WAXD was used to determine, the results indicated that the interlayer distances became lager duo to adding HDAC1 into Na-MMT. The mechanism may be expounded as fellow: when the quality of surfactant is less than exchange capacity, the exchange power came from reaction of cation exchange, and there are strong interaction between surfactant and interlayer. However, when the quality of surfactant is over exchange capacity of cation, the surfactant carried cations with corresponding anions entered the interlayer through interaction of hydrophobic groups leading to increase of the interlayer distance. For CTAB, excess surfactant can lead to increase of the interlayer distance, but it is not obvious. The mechanism may be expounded as fellow: the continuous increase of interlayer distances is duo to exchange between cations of surfactant and residue Na~+,because the quality of surfactant is less than exchange capacity, Na~+ can not be exchanged. The conclusion that sodium SDS can not be entered the interlayer of MMT is proved by the comparison WAXD of modified MMT without being washed with deionic water and SDS feed.Degradation activation energy of PP/OMMT is more than PP is obtained by Ozawa and Kissinger calculated method, and the PA6 have the same conclusion.
