This study includes two parts:The dispersion and aggregation of nano-silica filled SBR:Nano-silica is another mostly used filler in rubber industry besides carbon black. However, they easily aggregate and agglomeration in nonpolar rubber due to the strong filler-filler and weak filler-rubber interactions. Although the use of silane coupling agent- bis(triethoxysilylpropyl) tetrasuiphide (TESPT or Si69) has made a revolutionary progress (Green Tire, for example), some problems still remain, such as high viscosity and bad processing property. The effects of a dispersant, or .(and) silane coupling agent as well as different processes on the dispersion of silica in SBR and the properties of the composites are investigated. The results indicate that this dispersant helps to improve the dispersion of silica in SBR, but no chemical reaction with silica occurred. An effect on vulcanization results in a higher cross-link density and thus a decrease in dynamic loss. The introduction of silane coupling agent not only improves the dispersion of silica but also strengthens the filler-rubber interactions in a chemical way by a so-called coupling reaction between silica particles and rubber during vulcanization or (and) heating process, therefore leads to an increase in reinforcing potential of the filler and a much lower dynamic loss.In both normal process and heating process, a negative effect is...
