Twist drill is one of the more extensively used cutting tools. Drilling process is one of the most used processes for material removal. The amount of drilling procedure is up to 20%~40% of total mechanical machining procedures. With the development of material technology, more concerns for the drilling chip control are paid than before. At the present time, the normal used approaches for drilling chip control are to increase the spiral angle and enlarge the area of the twist drill cross section are qualitive.In this paper, a new idea of the spiral flute design of twist drill based on the chip-flowing smoothly was suggested by considering chip-flowing direction and lateral curling. The equations for calculating were given. The flow chart about the calculation of the cutting edge was established so as to make the chip-flowing direction in the feed plane and make the difference of flowing velocity minimum as much as possible.For the convenience, suppose the main cutting edge consists of countless short line segment and the cutting of each segment is free orthogonal, so each segment can be looked as a micro single point cutting tool.
