Recently, a great deal of attention has been paid to design and construction of the complexes of coumarin and its derivatives. In this dissertation, the author has carried out the study on the compounds with coumarin-salicyl ligands and 2-aminophenol-salicyl ligand.Eleven title compounds have been synthesized and characterized. These title compounds are complexes with N'-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)-2-oxo-2H-chromene -3-carbohy-drazide (H2La) [C17H12N2O4] (1), [Cu(C17H10N2O4)(C3H4N2)]·DMF (2), [Cu2(C17H10N2O4)2 (C3H4N2)-2]·2H2O (3) and [Cu2(C17H10N2O4)2(py)2]·2H2O (4); complex with N'-(2-hydroxy-benzoyl)-2-oxo-2H-chromene-3-carbohydrazide ligand [C17H12N2O5] (5); complexes with N'-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)(5-nitrophenyl)salicylaldimine (H2Lc) [Ni(C13H9N2O4)2]·2DMF (6), [Ni(C13H8N2O4)·(py)2]·(DMF)·(0.5py) (7), [Cd2(C13H8N2O4)2·)py)4]·6H2O (8), [Zn2(C13H8N2O3.5)2·(py)2] (9) and bis(salicylidene)hydrazine complexes (10 and 11).The neighboring molecules in compound 1 are linked through the weak C-H...O hydrogen bonds to get an extended chain structure. In complexes 2 and 5 the neighboring molecules are bridged by intermolecular hydrogen bonds, resulting in a 1D polymer.The complexes 3,4, 8 and 9 are binuclear complexes. The binuclear units in these four complexes have three different configurations (parallel-planar, coplanar, and irregular). The phenolic oxygen atoms of the two hydrazone ligands in complexes 3 and 4 are as two equatorial-apical bridges. Therefore, the binuclear units in these two compounds arc parallel-planar. The Cd(II) ions in complex 8 are bridged by phenolic oxygen atoms from the two Schiff ligands, forming neutral centrosymmetrical binuclear entity. The two basic planes of the two metal octahedra in 8 are planar. The Cd...Cd distance within the binuclear unit is 3.553(8) A. In complex 9 the Zn(II) ions are also bridged by phenolic oxygen atoms of the two Schiff ligands. The coordination polyhedra of the two zinc atoms are irregular. The configuration of the binuclear unit in 9 is also irregular. The Zn...Zn distance in the binuclear zinc complex molecule is 3.190(3) A.Some title complexes were characterized by IR spectra, electronic spectra, thermal analyses and magnetic data.
