The bioinorganic chemistry of vanadium is a new research field. Vanadium has some significant biological functions in biological systems. Vanadium is present in the active sites of some metalloenzymes, such as haloperoxidases and nitrogenases, which catalyze the halogenaition of organic substrates and biological nitrogen fixation respectively. Vanadium can inhibit ribonuclease and Na-K-ATPase, thus has its role in signal transduction and bioenergetics. Structurally characterized synthetic analogs of the active sites of V-containing enzymes are essential for the interpretation of biochemical properties and catalytic activity of V-containing enzymes. So synthesis and biochemical mechanism study of vanadium functional complexes attracted considerable attention. Here, we obtained a series of new vanadium complexes and investigated their crystal structures, coordination features, physicochemical properties and their interaction with DNA.1 Review. The basic chemical properties of vanadium were briefly introduced and the development of model compounds of V-HPOs and the electrochemical studies of the interaction between transition metal complexes and DNA were systematically summarized.2 Introduction on several kinds of Schiff base compounds and their applications. More than ten kinds of hydrazones, amino acid Schiff bases and several other kinds of ligands were obtained.3 Synthesis and characterization of vanadium complexes. These compounds were obtained through routine methods and its single crystal were cultivated by free volatilization and ether diffusing way. The compounds were analyzed by IR and UV-Vis spectrums and thermogravimetry.4 Analyses and discussions about crystal structures and the studies on the interaction of complexes with ct-DNA. The interaction between three vanadium complexes and calf thymus DNA has been primarily discussed by cyclic voltammetry, UV-Vis absorption spectrophotometry and fluorescence spectroscopy.
