Phenolic resin is an important binding admixture as a kernel of friction material. All kinds of Phenolic resin, nowadays, are using organic menstruum for dissolving. But this kind of phenol formaldehyde resins as well as those improved, though the craft technique is mature, also have the very obvious weakness for its quality. The key problem is using organic menstruum. Using organic menstruum dissolves Phenolic resin will increase the cost. Meanwhile, it is also dangerous. To avoid the problem that mentioned above, make use of water-solubility Phenolic resin is the best choice. Comparing with organic menstruum, water menstruum has such merit: the first reason is it has low cast. The price of tap water is far less than organic menstruum; secondly, it none harm to environment. In phenolic resin product process, using innocuous menstruum, for entironment protection, is significant meaning; finally, it is innocuity. The organic menstruum in production, mostly, is venomousness. It's easily arose occupational poisoning. At the same time, there are flammable and explosive materials. It is hidden trouble for security.This research is using water-solubility phenol formaldehyde resins as well as those improved by boric acid in friction material production, and testing the performance of the friction material. We have a conclusion that it has feasibility in friction material production.
