The KDP crystal is a kind of nonlinear optical crystal with good optical-electricproperty. Considering the characteristics of both its nice property and being easilygrown larger, KDP crystals are selected as one of the optimal crystal materials, appliedin high power lasers. Because KDP crystals grown by use of the traditional methodneed longer growth cycle, it can't meet practical demand. So the rapid growth of KDPcrystals has become the international research focus. However, the more strictexperiment conditions are required in the rapid growth of KDP crystals so that thesolution has high stability. The KDP crystals with high optical uniformity and the leastdefects are needed in high power lasers.In this dissertation, the main factors of nucleation in solution were discussed basedon the nucleation theory. As a result, the effective way to increase the stability ofsolution was found. Further, the device of rapid growth KDP crystals was designedand fabricated. The transparent KDP crystals were rapidly grown at the rate of25mm/d, the size was 25×24×27mm~3, and the rapid growth technology process ofKDP crystals was discussed. In order to increase the size of KDP crystals, the otherbigger growth device was designed which can decrease the cost, be safe and easilyoperated. In addition, the dislocations and the inclusions were studied by means oflaser tomography device, super microscope, laser transparency device, SEM and theelectronic energy spectrum. The mechanism of defect formation was discussed andthe methods of reducing the defects were given. All of the above will supplied somepowerful evidence to improve the quality of KDP crystals.
