Cucurbit[n]uril (Q[n]) is a macropolycyclic compound self-assembled from an acid-catalyzed condensation reaction of glycoluril and formaldehyde.It's a new family of molecular hosts that have aroused considerable interest in the area of supramolecular chemistry. Their host-guest chemistry as well as novel supramolecular assemblies based on Q[n] has been studied and summarized in a topical review article. Although the cucurbiturils are potentially as useful as well-known host molecules such as crown ethers, cyclodextrins(CDs),their applications have been limited mainly due to their poor solubility in common solvents. A key goals is to introduce substitution in order to achieve ready solubility in both aqueous systems and common organic solvents.Institute of applied chemistry of GuiZhou university has successfully achieved a series of substituent cucurbit[n]uril and researched their host-guest chemistry. Ethylcucurbituril was co-oligomerization of diethyl glycoluril and unsubstituted glycoluril diether. But we haven't get pure ethylcucurbituril now,the product was determined by 1H NMR spectroscopy, we can find out cucurbituril's characteristic chemical shift. The synthesis of glycoluril ethyl ester via co-oligomerization of dihydroxytartrate and urea with special condition. The product was determined by 1HNMR spectroscopy, it just was what we want. The crystal gained from cucurbituril and metal ion was also researched, the configuration of the crystal present a capsule model.Cucurbit[n]uril,rirnmed by carbonyl oxygens,are rigid hollow organic compounds with a unique hydrophobic cavity , possessing essential qualification of catalyst carrier. It could be synthesized easily and can be used as the carrier of some kind of catalyzer. Unsubstituted cucurbituril was used as carrier of the platinum catalyzer,and its catalysis capability was observed in the reaction of toluene hydrogenation. The catalysis ability gradation is Q[8]>Q[7]>Q[5]>Q[6].
