The paper is carried out in order to synthesis Hexafluoroacetone. HFA is produced by containing, in the liquid phase, hexafluorothioacetone dimer—synthesized by hexafluoropropane and S—with at least a stoichiometric amount of an aprotic solvent and at least a catalytic amount of an alkali metal fluoride and oxidant. Optimizing the synthetical technic by the means of orthogonal and single factor analysis. In addition, their structures are characterized with IR and NMR. The author studied and assayed the ability of HFA hydrate, the mechanism of the formation of HFA was quested for as well.As can be seen from the results, KIO3 is the preferred oxidant. The conversion of hexafluorothioacetone dimer was high, the yield of HFA was up to 90.2%. The yield of recycle KIO3 was also above 50%. But the effect of O2 as oxidant was lower than KIO3 as oxidant. Owing to the richness of the former, it's a promising and convenient method to obtain HFA when O2 as oxidant. It's proved by 50%yield via one-step reaction. And HFA hydrate-the object production-only contained (CF3)2C(OH)2 or its hydrate and H2O, without any other impurity nearly.
