Ethyl 4-acetylbutyrate is the key intermediate in the synthetic of statin drugs, it also has important applications in pesticides, pharmaceuticals, perfumes, photochemical goods, polymerization catalysts, and so on. There is no synthetics method about this compound in our country, the synthetic methods which were reported in foreign country were expensive in raw materials and complex in post-processing, and not suitable for industrialization, this paper is in the base of previous method, using a large number of experiments, exploring a line for industrialization.This paper is divided into two parts, the first part is diethyl 2-acetylglutarate's synthesis and process research, the other part is Ethyl 4-acetylbutyrate's synthesis and process research, diethyl 2-acetylglutarate is an important compound, as a calcium antagonist used in cardiovascular diseases' treatment, also used as Pharmaceutical intermediates in synthesis. In this paper, catalyst is used in order to increase productivity and concentration, using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) on the product identification.In the second part, diethyl 2-acetylglutarate was used as the starting raw materials, through decarboxylation hydrolysis reaction, we got Ethyl 4-acetylbutyrate, Gas Chromatography -Mass spectrum(GC-MS),Infrared Spectroscopy (IR) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonarce(NMR) were used to identify the products.Through the research, we got the best route to synthesize diethyl 2-acetylglutarate and Ethyl 4-acetylbutyrate, The process works is simple, mild conditions, the yield over 68.1%, and the concentration is 98.4%.
