Antibacterial materials are becoming increasingly important not only in the hospital and healthcare environments,but also for laboratory,home,marine and some industrial applications.Materials and systems are being developed to prevent the build up,spread and transfer of harmful bacteria and viruses,as well as actively disabling them.The preparation and the application of the antibacterial nanocomposites were studied in this paper.It mainly includes:the preparation and antibacterial properties of high-moleculer surface-quaternized SiOx antibacterial nano particles,the preparation of PVC/Q-SiOx antibacterial nanocomposites materials,the comparison of different antibancterial materials,and the scale-up experiments under Pilot-plant-scale.Q-SiOx antibacterial particles were prepared by surface-covered with high-molecular quaternary ammonium salts and they were treated by activation reagent,reacted with high-molecular-weight polyethylenimine(PEI) and modified by the halide.The antibacterial properties,antibacterial permanence and antibacterial mechanism of the Q-SiOx particles were studied,and the results showed out the high anti-rate toward both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and good antibacterial permanence.The shape varieties of bacteria and microcosmic antimicrobial process were studied through TEM microscopy and PI experiments.The results showed that the cell structure of bacteria could be destroyed effectually by Q-SiOx particles.The antibacterial PVC/Q-SiOx nanocomposites were prepared by meltingly blending of PVC and Q-SiOx nanoparticles.The antibacterial,mechanical properties and antibacterial permanence of the materials were studied.The results showed that the efficiency of antibacterial to E.coli and S.aureus of the composites was 89%and 90%respectively,the composites had higher tensile strength and impact strength than that of control PVC in 66.3%and 124.1%respectively.It also showed that the composites had good bactericidal permanence.And the mechanism of Synergistic Strengthening and Antimicrobial properties on PVC was explained by setting structural models.Based on the lab-level experiment of PVC/Q-SiOx materials,scale-up experiments were carried out for PVC profile,pipe and antibacterial masterbatch.The antibacterial properties,mechanical properties and antibacterial permanence of the products were studied.The results showed that the properties of them were well-maintained after scale-up experiments.By twice-blending,the mechanical properties of products were improved,and it also provided antibacterial PVC masterbatch products.
