Among organic antibacterial agent, quaternary ammonium salt is readily available and shows high efficiency in antibacteria. While the antibacterial group of the quaternary ammonium salt is grafted to a polymer through a long chain by covalent bond, the polymer holds the antibacterial function outside, meanwhile overcome disadvantages of small molecule antimicrobial agents, such as high volatility, high toxicity and environmental unfriendliness.Acrylate polymer emulsion is prepared from methyl methacrylate (MMA) and n-butylacrylate (BA) under the initiating of2,2’-azobis (2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride (AIBA), and the experiment condition is optimized to insure the lowest rate of coagulum ratio. The quaternary ammonium salt antibacterial polymer emulsion is prepared by means of cationic emulsion polymerization from the starting matreials such as quaternary ammonium salt functional monomer-methacryloxyethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (DMC), and methyl methacrylate (MMA) and n-butylacrylate (BA) as other monomers, under the initiating of2,2’-azobis (2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride (AIBA).The water resistance of the emulsion coating is improved through hydroxy/epoxy and carboxyl/epoxy crosslinkings, and high efficiency of water resistance is achieaved. The antibacterial performance of quaternary ammonium salt polymer for gram bacteria is characterized by the method of colony counting.
