The present work mainly describes the synthesis, physical characterization and biological studies of novel Pt complexes containing 3-acetylpyridine and 5-formylsalicylic acid, respectively,as ligands.First of all, this report shows the synthesis in aqueous solution of a novel complex "cis-PtL2Cl2" (being L=3-acetylpyridine) which exhibits activity in the ovarian carcinoma cell line. The preliminary crystal structure reveals a mononuclear entity containing a Pt center surrounded by two 3-acetylpyridine ligands together with two chlorides in a cis mode. Also, this research project exposes some similarities in the thermal behavior of this new compound compared with cisplatin when it interacts with CT DNA,although the former may have more than one interactive paths being quite complicated to be analyzed in simple terms.Additional biological studies as UV-vis titration, circular dichroism and cytotoxicity corroborate these assumptions above.Furthermore, the formation of the complex PtL(NH3)2 using 5-formylsalicylic acid as a chelating agent is shown and its synthetic process is well described. This complex is characterized in detail using common spectroscopic techniques as IR,EA,ESI-MS,1H NMR and 195Pt NMR to confirm its formation and similar studies are shown for a variety of metals in additional reactions, with the ligands enumerated above.
