With the maturation and the improvement of size and shape optimization design in structure, the topology optimization has becoming the difficult and the hotspot problem in structural optimization design research, and at the same time, which is the biggest challenge study in the world. The topology optimization is a design method that looking for the most optimal distributing form of structural stiffness in design space or the best way to pass power, in order to achieve optimization of some behaviors or alleviation of the structure weight.It is well known that we can not get the excellent structural design scheme, even if there is the best design in shape and size optimization without the best optimum structural topological shape in the stage of preliminary conceptual design. Therefore, the author attempted to introduce the topology optimization theory to the optimization design in non-overflow gravity dam, and in the hope of getting the optimum topological shape of non-overflow solid gravity dam in the stage of conceptual design. The chief research and study work show as follows:(1)The main problem in the topology optimization is the singularity of the feasible domain. It is often appear chessboard numerical value problem in the engineering practice. Recently, the gravity dam of building and planning in our country come into being a trend that the main form of the gravity dam is the solid gravity dam. Using this characteristic, the paper make a topology optimization to the solid gravity dam. It has a virtue that avoiding the chessboard numerical value problem.(2)Based on the APDL and UIDL in finite element analysis software of ANSYS, by using the topology optimization program, a topology optimization program of variable-density was exploited. The topology optimization program have the functions of checking the stress and combining the shapes.(3)Using the variable-density topology optimization program, make a optimization on non-overflow solid gravity dam, and use beeline and curve to combing the shapes, then the results was compared.(4) Based on the APDL in finite element analysis software of ANSYS, exploit an Evolutionary Structural Optimization method program. And make a optimization on on non-overflow solid gravity dam too, get a similar results with the variable-density topology optimization method. This indicates again that the topology optimization method is feasible and effective for the problem of gravity dam.
