To Qingdao, the relationship between the transformation of the urban space and the invasion from other countries that is very closed in the modern time. The research hopes to use the method of the city geography to study the early history of Qingdao in modern time, especially, the transformation of the urban space. The methods is study the question with the documents,old photos and investigation and so on.The research firstly reviews the time line and the space line of the urban space in modern Qingdao. After the war between Qing Dynasty government and French government, the importance of the Chaochow Gulf area became obviously. The position and its resources attract plenty of power countries in the world. At that time,the Qing government tried to build a new port in that area, and to enhance the power of it, so that to protect itself. But the result is failed.In the third part, the thesis aim to describe the symptoms of Qingdao early modernization in the period of Qingdao occupied by Germany from 1897 to 1914. In order to find the difference of the urban space between the period of Germany occupation and before. Then criticize objectively the progressive effect of the transformation of the urban space:At the same time, the research wants to analyze the construction of the colony style so that to find the process of the formation about the urban space.How to get the ground to build the colony is very important to German governor in Qingdao. So in order to accomplish their plans, the German governors use a lot of special ways to get the farm from native Chinese. And then built a new city on it. And obviously, that disturbed the development mode of this area. So the other purpose of the research is to find the effect of the change phenomenon in urban space.
