With the rapid development of modern information technology, many kinds of printers have gone into the human society more and more closely. While providing the convenience for human being, the printers also have brought noise into human society. Noise not only affects operator's sensation, but it is also discomforting, it offends people's feelings and otherwise brings on various negative aspects to human beings. Therefore, printers with low noise have become the technical focus for the printer manufactories in the future.Noise emitted by the bankbook printers has special acoustic characteristics of impact, multi-sources and complex sound field. This type of noise can be categorized mainly into printing noise produced by print head and frame vibration noise caused by spacing motor, carriage and side frames. As a result, it has a great significant to master the acoustic characteristics of noise and to identify accurately the main sources of noise in order to control the printer's noise well.Up to now, domestic printer's manufacturers mainly focus on the mechanical performances of printers, but pay less attention to the acoustic quality and noise control on the printers. The paper makes an overall induction and sum-up from a lot of scientific & technical papers both home and abroad on industrial noise control. Based on above, several test techniques and signal processing methods (such as sound intensity technique, spectrum analysis method and coherent analysis between noise and vibration) had been synthetically used to identify and study characteristics of noise from Type PR9 and Type PR2P of the bankbook printers, produced by the NanTian Electronic Information Ltd. In this paper, some noise reduction techniques on the Type PR9 of bankbook printers have been studied, such as acoustic enclosure and Helmholtz's silencer, though the acoustic FEM simulation and experimental methods, and finally the noise control schemes for Type PR9 printer have been put forward for the manufacturer.
