With the rapid economic growth over the long term, we need more and more sources of energy. And also peoples need the better quality of life and the better ecological environment. As a high-quality clean and environmental energy, natural gas is attached more and more great importance to by our government. In these years we have built the shanjing pipeline which is the first long-distance pipeline of china, and built the West-East natural gas pipeline, the Szechwan-Shanghai natural gas pipeline, and also the pipeline from Russia to China. In the Five-year Development Program of our government, that building the conservation-minded society is one important content of item for the future. An efficient use of energy and energy conservation are an embodiment of building the conservation-minded society. As a rule the compressor is dragging by motor for boosting natural gas pressure in the area where the electric energy is abundant. So the electric motor has been the maximal equipment of power consumption. How to control electric energy's consumption by the advanced means is an important problem of restraining the long-distance pipeline s development. W ith frequency conversion technology's appearing, this problem has been solved well. This thesis introduces the VFD's development and status, and introduces the technique of frequency control of motor speed that applying to the pressure boost in the shanjing long-distance pipeline.
