Sinan Protected Cultural Studies

The plan of urban redevelopment in Shanghai in 1991 made the urban construction enter a period of rapid development. The function of CBD has been significantly improved. The basic infrastructure and living environment have been significantly improved as well. However, in the meantime, super strength of the development in old urban reconstruction and losing control of the layout of high-rise buildings make a serious threat and destruction to the urban environment and historical features of the characteristics. In 2003, Shanghai identified 12 historical and cultural protected areas, so as to improve the features and characteristics of the protection of the whole city and continue the citys historical context. Among the 12 areas, Sinan Road in Luwan District, is a very important part of the Hengshan Road– Fuxin Road historical and cultural revival reservation area. Shanghais historical and cultural features and excellent historic buildings is an extension of the urban culture and a valuable asset that our predecessors gave us. Through the protection of historical and cultural area, old memory of Shanghai and urban culture will be well protected and extended, and the citys cultural connotations will enhanced as well.Sinan Road cohesions the historical development of the central area of Shanghai. It is a miniature of the long history of Shanghai. Researching Sinan Road helps us understand the history of center Shanghai.This thesis consists of four chapters.Chapter one is the formation and development of Sinan Road. Shanghai has a long history, developing from a small town to a commercial and trading center, while experienced a number of pains. The development fo Sinan Road soaked a lot of Chinese peoples blood and tears. The road is a witness of the development of Shanghai and the rapid development of China. Sinan Road as well as its background historical facts and the documents of it, contain a lot of historical, social and culture information. The road is not only a historical proof of the urban development, but a real icom of the urban culture.Chapter Two is the research of the unique aspects of Sinan Road. From the architectural style, historical buildings, historical famouse people and historical stories, the depth of the road's connotation has been well expressed. And by this way, we can find the buildings of a city do have memories and they contain a lot of culture. By comparing the difference of Sinan Road and Mid Huaihai Road, the two different road cultures are displayed, and that shows the unique of Sinan Road.Chapter Three is a deep research of the protection of Sinan Road. From urban culture resource, urban culture construction, urban consumption concept, esthetic taste and fashion, we discuss the meaning of protecting Sinan Road. We state the necessity and importance of protecting Sinan Road.Chapter Four is caring about the future of Sinan Road. With series protection actions, will Sinan Road still keep its origin or will it be destroyed like other historical roads? That is what we concern and pay much attention to.
