Fuel cell is one of the new energy technologies which have the most favorable prospect in 21st century. The distribution of PEMFC stack temperature has an important effect on maintaining the stability of PEMFC system. When the temperature rises, the performance of the stack will improve. However, if the stack temperature is too high, the performance of the stack will decrease as the membrane proton becomes dry. So it's very important to maintain a suitable temperature.In order to improve the performance of the PEMFC system, it is necessary to keep the PEMFC system working in a proper temperature point. Then based on the temperature model, a dynamic matrix predictive controller is designed to control the PEMFC stack temperature. The main contents of this paper are summarized as follows:(1) This paper firstly introduced the system origin, research significance and the main content, and then explained the research and development of PEMFC system in detail.(2) The temperature model of the fuel cell stack is developed based on energy conservation of the stack. Firstly, we use Matlab/Simulink simulation tool to create a temperature model based on the electrochemical model of fuel cell. Secondly, the affect of stack performance by load current and gas pressure is analyzed by the simulation. Thirdly the temperature model of the fuel cell stack is identified based on RBF neural network and the relationship between input and output is analyzed. At Last, the rationality of model is validated by comparing the results of simulation and experiment.(3) Based on the temperature model, a dynamic matrix predictive controller is designed to control the PEMFC stack temperature. The objective of the controller is to keep the PEMFC system working in a proper temperature point, and get a better output performance of the stack. The simulation results show that the models can affect the characteristics of PEMFC correctly.(4) By analyzing the components of PEMFC control system, working principle and key techniques, the overall control scheme of the PEMFC power system is designed. Especially, the temperature control scheme is described in detail.
