The World Expo 2010 is holding in Shanghai, China. The World Expo, "better city, better life" as its theme, is designed to fully display the fruits of the urban civilization development, experience and advanced concept, exploring the people-oriented city life. This also means that the world is speeding up the urbanization process, and urban construction, as the carrier of the urbanization process is even more important.Urban bridge is an indispensable component of development of the modern city. Modern bridge is developing towards the direction of the city landscape, people-oriented and wide deck. This paper is based on Changsha Mars Road Liuyang River Bridge as the research background, combined with characteristics of modern urban development of the bridge, using finite element theory and calculation software to carry out analysis, mainly studying the following aspects:1. The structure and mechanical characteristics of the separate-traffic steel-box half-through arch bridge is analyzed and studied. And this kind of structure is applied on the Liuyang River Bridge.2. The spatial finite element model was established and the static analysis is carried on. On the base of the result, the special beam, cable and the wide deck are calculated and analyzed carefully. The results are analyzed and compared with load test results. 3. The natural vibration characteristics of the bridge are calculated. Subsequently. The analyzed results are also compared with the modal test results.4. The effect of seismic action is analyzed using response spectrum method. Finally, the mechanical characteristics of separate-traffic steel-box half-through arch bridges are summed up according to the former analysis. This can provide a reference of similar type of bridges.
