Suspension is an important part of modern automobile, its structural strength and dynamic characteristic has a significant influence on the safety of car when it is in running. Its failure will be very dangerous for the users.Suspension is a complex multi-body system, it is difficult to obtain the boundary load conditions through tests or calculated by hand of its most parts. Even if we can get the boundary load conditions through tests, but the test is very complex and the cost is very high. While through establishing and analysising the multi-body dynamic model of suspension, it is easily to get the accurate boundary loading conditions, prepare for the follow-up finite element structural analysis. The structural analysis of suspension, not only can we get the the distribution of stress and deformation of the car in typical driving condition, but also can reveal the affect of the various loads for the stress distribution of suspension, and provide reference data for the analysis of fatigue strength, structural improvement, determine the layout of strain gauge for stress measurement and reasonable to fatigue test.In this paper, aiming at the macpherson front suspension of W1 model provided by Wanxiang Group, proposed structural strength and dynamic analysis of macpherson suspension based on multi-body dynamics and finite element by combined ADAMS with ANSYS. By using ADAMS/Car module, established the multi-body dynamics simulation model of macpherson front suspension. Then simulaed it and optimized the weakness of it. Basis that, conducted dynamic analysis of the suspension in the typical car driving conditions, obtained the boundary load condition in the typical driving conditions of the suspension, prepare for the of finite element analysis to follow-up.Created the finite element model of suspension in ANSYS. Through the finite element static analysis of suspension, studied the static characteristics of suspension in three typical car driving conditions. The results show that the suspension have a good strength and good stiffness as a whole, and there is still have a certain lightweight space. Through the finite element modal analysis of suspension, studied the inherent vibration characteristics of the suspension, and contrast the calculation results with the excitation frequency of car, its inherent frequency is greater than the excitation frequency of the cars, its can not cause resonance. The calculation results have provided an important modal parameters for the Dynamic response analysis of suspension. The calculation results laid a foundation for the in-depth study of suspension about the dynamic response and fatigue etc.
