With the developments of science and technology, high pressure vessel plays a more and more important role in national economy. However, there is a common problem of bad economy in high pressure vessel. In this paper, based on analyzing the existing design technology of high pressure vessel, a method of combining the optimal design with design by analysis is presented, in order to reach the aim of cutting high pressure vessel cost. In this paper, the being used cylinder accumulator in ZhuoLu High Pressure Gas Cylinder Factory is selected as study object. By assessing its stress intensity, it is found that the accumulator has high cost. In order to .solve this problem, a study on optimal design of its main dimensions and some local regions is carried out and the corresponding results are obtained. Then, using the method of design by analysis, an assessment of stress intensity on the optimal accumulator is done in order to ensure its safety. The results have shown that with good safety and given volume, the weight of accumulator has decreased 13.97 percent, and the material has saved 1.58 ton, so the manufacturing cost has greatly cut down. By means of AutoCAD software, a project drawing of optimal cylinder accumulator is plotted.
