In the parts of diesel engine, the engine block as a casting cabinet part composes the frame work of diesel engine. Its reliability has an important effect on the performance of the whole diesel engine. In order to improve and optimize design project and achieve satisfied design results, only research specialist staff must analyze and compute it by FEM(finite element method),can they have a relatively accurate prediction of the performance during the process of design to guarantee the diesel engine must be safe and stable.The mainly forces on the cylinder block are very complex, such as the gas pressure loaded at the bottom of cylinder head and the surface of cylinder, the lateral pressure caused by the cylinder wall, the force loaded on the main bearing and so on. Size and direction of these forces along with the working condition and the crank angle are also changing. However, even in the diesel engine is not running the cylinder block is also forced by the pretightening force of cylinder head bolts and main bearing bolts.The important thing is to make the design and manufacturing quality of the diesel engine remained at a very high level of assurance in the process of product development of diesel engine, this is also a big problem. With dynamic performance of diesel engine is increasing, the following question is that the mechanical load and thermal load is increased. It is important for us to pay great attention to the rationality of the structure when the diesel engine is been designed and manufactured. Even slight oversight may result in the machine is not working properly.This paper focused on the cylinder block of 12V240 ZJH diesel engine and the improved one designed by Dalian locomotive and rolling stock co. ltd. CNR group. This paper according to the drawings, application of three-dimensional entity modeling software Pro/E to establish the two kinds of cylinder block and take the three-dimensional solid model into ANSYS software and other geometric processing can be simplified. According to calculating the stress distribution of load applied to a given material properties and so on. The finite element analysis such as strength, deformation and modal for two kinds of cylinder blocks of 12V240 ZJH diesel engine is studied in this paper. It can be provided a reference type of the cylinder block based on static strength analysis of the cylinder block and comparative analysis.
