With the development of the national economy, China' s steel production has gained the first place in the world. At the same time, the steel structure has widely applied in the Civil Engineering. However, there are only a few steel structures designing software in accordance with Chinese code for structural design in our country now. The portal lattice rigid frame is one of the light weight steel structures, and it is chosen gladly by engineers, but there is few steel structure designing CAD software about portal lattice rigid frames. So the author manages to develop a portal lattice rigid frame designing CAD software with the meet of engineering.The software is finished under the popular flat Visual C+.s-6.O, which is applicable to Windows95/Windows98/WindowsNT. The system makes full use of the advanced computer technology including C/C++ Windows Programming, Microsoft Foundation Classes, transferring data with Mapping ffles in memory and thread, operating visibility and developing drawing system with ADS technology.The system consists of three parts: preprocess, calculating kernel and post-processing. The data used by calculation program and post-processing are formed by dialog boxes. A finite element program is compiled, which can analyze the response of frame structure under many load cases. And the program of specification check is also compiled including deflection, strength and stabilization. Finally, visualization program is developed, which can display the result of calculation, form computing sheet and plot construction drawings.By performing the designing of an actual project with the CAD software developed by author, it is shown that the software can be in favor of improving the efficiency and meet the demand of engineering.
