3D Seismic Response of Concrete Faced Rockfill Dam (CFRD) And Studies of its Influence FactorsMaster Student Qiang Liu Advisor Prof. Xianjing KongWith the development of the economy of our country and the need for construction, CFRD has been widely used as a competitive dam and is supported by many experts in this field. With the help of the National Natural Science Fund project棗The Applied Research on 200m CFRD', extensive research has been done on the 3D dynamic response of CFRDs, the factors that influence the stress distribution along the concrete faceplate, and other responses of the rocks.Seismic response analysis based on finite element method and equivalent linear method has been performed on a standard 200m CFRD using a dynamic 3D FEM program. Many laws have been established as a result of this analysis. Next, thin-layer elements were used to simulate the interface between faceplates and rocks while 3D thick interface elements were used to simulate the slots between faceplates. Some conclusions have been drawn after many calculations on different interface and slot situations. Influence factors such as height, downriver grades, river profile, strength and direction of seismic wave have been studied for their effect on dynamic responses such as frequency, acceleration, stress of the CFRD. Many laws have been discovered as a result. It is hopeful that these conclusions will make useful references for the works of practical projects such as earthquake resistant design, sites and configurations of CFRD, and in other engineering calculations.
