In ancient China,sacrificial rite was an important event.Our ancient peoplewanted to communicate with goodness in their imagines,praying for happy and peaceful life.A ccording to different deities,the sacrificial rites were differentiated.The sacrifice to heaven and earth,which the emperor would take part in,were thehighest grade;the sacrifice to mountains and fivers,which the appointed imperialenvoy would take part in,were of the middle grade.Correspondingly,the sacrificial architecture is one important type in Chineseancient architecture.The architecture devoted to heaven or earth are termed thetemple of heaven or earth;those devoted to mountains or rive,are termple ofFive-peaks,Four-rivers or Four-seas.The subject of this paper-the Ji-du temple is a group of architecture devoted to the Ji river,which ranked together with the Yang-ziriver,the Yellow river and the Huai river as the four biggest mainstream reachingthe sea.The Ji river has expired today,but the Ji-du temple is being conserved betteramong the Four-river temples.This study will offer some detailed information forfurther researches into sacreficial architecture.This study of the architecture of Ji-du temple is based on the cultural heritage ofthe sacrificial rites to rivers as background.This paper discusses and demonstratesthe characteristics of its architecture history,its allocation and its environoment,layout,its buildings and its details.Furthermore on the basis of detailed andcomparative analysis,thispaper also probes into a proposal for the rehabilitationabout the whole layout and its architecture and emphasizes that the historic valueshould be the most important concern for conservation and rehabilitation.At last thispaper summarizes the characteristic of the Ji-du temple and points out that furtherCOnSerVation' Ws an intendwt M and a long tiIn.
