The use of fiber reinforced plastics in civil engineering is a hot topic in research and development of the international civil engineering area, a new method of reinforcement using carbon fiber sheet (CFS) which is easy handled'and small in thickness is attracting more attentions in the field of civil engineering.Based on the research condition in china and other countries, the following aspects are studied on the new technology of carbon fibre reinfirced plastics on strengthening & repairing concrete structures.1. Eight R.C.beams are tested under the different bond conditions, their loading properties failure mechanism and mode are researched. In addition, two R.C. beams are still tested, one of them is strengthened before loading and the another one is strengthened after loading by using CFS, their loading properties, failure mechanism and mode are researched.2. On the basis of the test results, a comuting method on how to calculate the flexural capacity pre'cisely of the flexural beams strengthened with CFS. The designing method, which is for the flexural beams, is proposed in this paper.3. In accordance with strengthened with CFS the designing method, the two R.C. structures are strengthened. And the significant attempts are made to explore the further application of this new technique in the engineering projects.
