Energy shortage and environmental protection are two major social concerns that mankind is faced with. Engine fueled with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), can not only economize the energy resources but also reduce the exhaust pollution. It brings not only economic benefits but also environmental benefits.A 2100 series diesel engine is modified into a spark ignited LPG dedicated engine. To improve power performance, economic performance, and emission performance and to enhance the power of the LPG engine, it is necessary to improve the combustion rate of LPG. It is realized by the application of a new kind of prechamber system. At the meantime, the compress ratio is reduced from 16 to 12 to avoid knock.The main systems and parts of the modified engine are described in detail. On the base of engine tests, some conclusions, which are directive significance to the design of a prechamber spark ignited LPG engine, are drawn.
