Concrete Filled Steel Tubular(CFST) column system, a new hybrid system, has been applied in high-rise buildings increasingly in recent years because of its high seismic performance. Now researchers inland or outland have done a lot of research on the hysteretic performance on CFST beam-columns under reversed cyclic load, but the research on CFST column system's dynamic performance is still scarce. China is a country liable to occur earthquake in some cities, CFST column system will have great prospect in application. So the research on its dynamic performance is an urgent and significative task. This paper uses time-history method to deal with the nonlinear dynamic analysis of CFST column frame under earthquake and compared it to RC and Steel frame. The main contributions in this paper are as follows:1. Based on the current restoring-force model of CFST beam-columns, a new M-P hysteretic model is presented. This model shows good agreement with the test results.2. The nonlinear time history programs are compiled and the response of CFST, RC frame under earthquake is calculated by these programs and the cost efficiency estimation of them is also investigated. The results showed that the CFST column is difficult to exhibit its high aseismic performance under minor earthquake, while in severe earthquake the advantage of CFST column's "fat" hysteretic characteristic could be employed because the CFST column enter into yielding, thus it is desirable to apply CFST column system in seismic region. Just considering the cost of steel and concrete in column, the CFST column is more expensive than RC column, but considering construction period, needed template, scaffold etc, the CFST frame wouldn't cost more than RC frame.3. The same comparison between CFST and steel frame is also performed, the results show: when the two frames have close displacement response under the same earthquake, the steel frame will cost more than CFST frame because the steel column will need more steel.
