Based on the old methods of power quality analysis, the paper uses wavelet transform to analyze power quality. As a new type of analytical tool, wavelet transform has good localized performance on both time field and frequency field. Wavelet transform is better than fourier transform in precision and credibility, and MRA enables us to get the information about the frequency which we need. On the other hand, the wavelet arithmetic can be realized through DSP, so it is widely used in the power system analysis.First, the paper introduces the standard about power quality and classifies the power quality variation problems. Based on the old methods of power quality analysis,the paper advances a new analytical method on power quality--wavelettransform.Second, the paper introduces the basic theory about wavelet transform, and point out why wavelet transform is better than fourier transform in some aspects. Then the paper presents two important concepts on wavelet transform: multi-resolution analysis and wavelet package analysis.Last, the paper introduces the application of wavelet transform on power quality analysis, especially on the research of voltage flicker. We can get the magnitude and frequency of the embed signal by MRA. The paper analyzes how to use DSP to realize the wavelet transform arithmetic and also analyzes some other power quality variations by wavelet transform.
