To reunderstand the relationship between human and nature is one of the tasks of future architectural and environmental design. The outlook of the nature of Chinese traditional architectural environment helps to resolve the serious ecological problems of the currents days. The way how human being, buildings and environment exist harmoniously in Chinese ancient built environment, and the successful cases provide abundant nutrients to today' s architectural creation and environmental construction.Set out from the ecological crisis our planet faces today, the essence of the Chinese ancient Outlook on universe and nature is comprehensively summarized in this article. With this we can reunderstand the philosophic theory of "The nature doesn' t belong to human, but human belongs to the nature " , and distill the essence of the construction methods of traditional built environment. This can be used as reference in the future.The article comprises six chapters. Chapter 1 points out the serious ecological problems we face today and the ideaistic origin of it, and expounds the inspirations of the natural outlook of the Chinese traditional culture. Chapter 2 analyses Chinese ancient humanistic and ecological outlook, the origin of the Chinese traditional nature outlook and built environment, and the ecological culture concept embodied in Chinese traditional built environment. Chapter 3 presents the impacts of Feng Shui Theory on the formation and settlement of traditional built environment. Chapter 4 gives some principles in summary on how the traditional buildings satisfied the physical and mental requirements of human and at the same time achieved the harmony and symbiosis with nature by analyzing various traditional architectural forms and architectural space design techniques. Chapter 5 analyses the ecological culture concept embodied in Chinese traditional architectural decoration and environmental constructions. Chapter 6 summaries the principles andmethods that how to apply the inspirations gained from the theories and practices in the Chinese traditional built environment. This combined with architectural and environmental creative practice will be stated in details.To protect the nature and environment is a duty that the architects can't shift off. From a theoretical perspective on ecology and culture, through the analysis of a great deal of examples in traditional built environment, with the help of design practice, this article presents the principles and methods on how to combine the design with nature. This research can help us build up correct outlook on nature in the process of the city environment system and the building and environment layout design as well as create sustainable built environment.
