The injuries, deaths and losses caused by road accidents in our country are too many in recent years, and the situation is getting worse and worse. Among the factors which influence traffic safety, the heat fade of drum brake is a important one. After analyzing the principle and reason of heat fade of drum brake, it is necessary to improve a practical and accurate calculating method to figure out the rise of the drum brake temperature, which will be useful to further study on the preventive measures for heat fade.On the basis of the constitution and work principle of general drum brake and the heat transfer theory, the friction heat, the heat convection and the radiation recuperation of drum brake are analyzed detailed, and then the mathematics model of temperature rise calculation is built. At the same time, according to the similarity theory and dimension analysis, this research has accomplished the heat convection experiment, and has gotten the calculation method of heat convection coefficient of drum brake.Based on the result of theory analysis and experiments, the practical software Dbtrc1.0 for calculating the temperature rise of drum brake is programmed. Some suggestions of reformative measures are also given to prevent the drum brake from heat fade on one actual road for vehicles by using Dbtrc1.0.
