Bridgehead bump is one of the urgent problems in the process of highway construction. In this paper, a mechanic model of man-chair-vehicle system with 3 degrees of freedom is built to analyze the effects on automobile ride comfort due to the differential settlement between roadway approach embankments and bridge structures. On the base of some field survey results on abundant literature and the calculating results in this paper, the controlling criterion of the differential settlements on approach embankment has been put forward. In this paper, the enlargement base has been set between subgrade and foundation. The finite element method is employed to analyze the influence of the modules and the thickness of the base material. The hollow concrete has been filled in the interface between abutment and approach embankment. It is successful to solve the problem of poor compaction near the abutment because of restricted access. It is also very useful to drainage of the embankment. At last, the foundation settlements are calculated and analyzed.
