This paper introduces the general situation of GIS ,the necessity and feasibility of developing city pipe-net plan and management system based on GIS,including the development tools,method and process.City Pipe-net Plan and Management under GIS(CPPM-GIS) is a application integrating Maplnfo map windows into Visual Basic program using MapBasic and Visual Basic.In this system, the spatial data and attribute data of drainage pipe-net are storaged separately in Maplnfo tables and Access database.They can be linked by program and provide some special function.According to the process of developing CPPM-GIS,this paper introduces the systems analysis, requirement analysis and the function design of every module in order. Then realization of every module is explained correspondingly.As a important component in CPPM-GIS,this paper illustrates detailedly the mathematics model of optimum design and direct optimization method for drainage pipe-net under GIS.As a key stage in planning and designing the drainage system, the caculation of pipe-net is very critical and time-consuming.This paper brings forward the recursive arithmetic for pipe-net and pipeline designed-discharge. Meanwhile,we give an example,Zhen-an region in Foshan city of Guangdong province,to illustrate it.
