This paper mainly discussed the optimization design of two-stage star-type gear transmission system. It covered the two sides: one-stage gear transmission and two-stage gear transmission. On the basis of their analysis and research, the mathematic models are created which include the objective functions of minimum volume and minimum center distance, the constraints of contact strength, bend strength and scuffing strength. With the help of Matlab software and its optimization toolbox, combining the optimization design theory, the parameter optimization of system software for gear transmission system has been developed successfully.In the research of gear transmission system optimization, the structure and geometry dimension calculating are determined. The selection of the designing parameter and establishment of constraints are also described. Simultaneously, the model of the whole problem is presented. Also, the adjustment of parameter and the selection of alter coefficient are discussed. At last, the reliability and integrality are verified because of the analysis of current helicopter's designing parameter.
