This paper deeply studies the characteristic of parallel pumps. Taking pumps' load time frequency, pump's characteristic curves, characteristic of pipe network and electricity price into account, the analysis software of variable speed pump schemes was completed. The software can process technological and economic analysis of variable flow schemes in the general fluid distribution system, primary and secondary pump water system of air conditioning, and provides the project design or alteration with technological support. Moreover, the software can calculate the pumps' running parameters under any possible condition, and provides the actual control with the parameters.Secondly, a calculation example of secondary pump variable speed in air conditioning was given. In the calculation example, all pumps' running parameters, the energy saving rate and the payback period were calculated in every variable speed pump schemes. For primary pump system in air conditioning, after consideration of the effect of variable chilled/cooling water flow to the chiller's performance, the simulation calculation in variable flow running was completed.In this paper, the control strategies of variable flow in secondary pump system and primary pump system in air conditioning were also discussed.
