The present paper studies the Variable Primary Flow (VPF) in air-conditioning systems. Analyzes the control ways in the water systems and the energy-saving caused by variable flow. Quantitatively studies the variable condenser water flow controlled by the constant temperature difference and the temperature of the entering water. Compares the differential temperature control with the differential pressure control in variable chilled water flow. Analyzes the ratio of the energy-saving under the condition of the variable flows in the condenser water system and in the chilled water system.Studies the effects of variable water flow on capacity of chillers and the resulting energy-saving. Sets up mathematical models, and quantitatively analyzes the effect of variable chilled water flow on cooling capacity and dehumidifying capacity of air coolers and fan coils.Finally, taking reformation of the constant primary flow system as an example, calculates the total energy-saving of the VPF system compared with constant primary flow system and payment back period of the investment.
