In the drive bevel pinion assembly of truck, the desire is definitely present for not only stiffness of preload, but also precise situation of a pair of tapered gear in order to guarantee quality. The desire is realitied through adding or minusing adjustable spacers in most of truck.However, it is usually deceided by human and experience in our country.The quality comes from skills of operator and varies intensely.Combined with the structure of several automobile rear bridge driving bevel pinion bearings in FAW Shandong special Automobile works, the paper manages to design and manufacture general type spacer selectors for pinion gears in automobile rear bridge, which work in the automatic assemble line, it ends up the fact that adjusting spacer size is deceided by human sensation, realizes the optimum stiffness spacer's choice and promotes the quality of the assembly.First, the machine work principle is illuminated in this paper. This section specially analyzes tapered rolling bearing's stiffness, preload and principle of selecting the adjusting spacer of the axle pinion. Secondly, the author introduces particularly "EST300" hardware design. And more, function and theory are analyzed deeply. At the end, the author presents "EST300" PLC software design in the light of selecting the spacer's procedure.Two machines from this paper have been checked and accepted in Penglai Town, Shandong Province in Mar. and Oct., 2003. In the factory, the machine's character data are tested, all the data meet the demands. The machines have run steadily and reliably since their handovers.
