The thermal field analysis of drum brakes is particularly vital to the brake performance of frictional brake and vehicle's safety performance, and it is also asignificant reference in the designing process of brakes.On the basis of the constitution and work principle of general drum brake and the theory of heat transfer and finite element method, the process of heat's creating and dissipating is analyzed detailed, and the mathematics model of temperature rising calculation is built. Taking the rear drum brake used in EQ140 as research object, ANSYS was used for simulating the temperature rising process of the braking drum in different working conditions. And the three-dimension temperature distribution of braking drum is obtained. The results were proved to be relatively reasonable by experiments, and some valuable conclusions have been gained by thorough analysis of the results. The conclusions have certainly practical significance for the design and reasonable use of drum brakes.
