This paper introduces the research work on the development of the electronic control system of the new power-split automatic transmission (PS-AT) for minibus. The PS-AT combines v-belt continuously variable unit and two-freedom planetary gear train to transfer power in parallel. Besides it possesses start shift, high gear (direct shift) and reverse shift as three adjuvant bands that can shift automatically. The PS-AT is not only a new mechatronics product but also a critical component to improve the performance of cars and the electronic control system based on the embedded system of Single Chip Microcomputer technology of the PS-AT is the pivotal part of the whole system.The research work of this paper primarily includes:1. The general design of the whole electronic control system is carried out in order to determine the partition and definition of the system module, the hardware structure and software functions of the system.2. The principle of sensors and actuators are principally designed and the hardware parts of the sensors are purchased and assembled.3. Because a new type of magnetic powder clutch for vehicle is employed in this system, the model of it is built up and the control rule is researched.4. The designing of hardware, programming and debugging of software and improvement of the electronic control system were accomplished.Because of the advantages of the PS-AT itself, it possesses promising future and practicality merit. Via research, at present the system has been preliminary developed, which provide good foundation for following work.
