Traffic accidents in China expressway occurred frequently in recent years. The security of expressway driving has caused the universal attention in our country. By analyzing the present situation and features of expressway traffic accidents, the rear-end collision warning system which suits for the practicality of China road is designed.Based on the model of safety following distance, the design blue print of the system is put forward. Through an integrated comparison of detecting techniques, the millimeter wave frequency modulated pulse-Doppler radar is chosen, which can measure the following distance, relative velocity of two following vehicles and azimuth at the same time. Base on the need of system communication, CAN-BUS technique is discussed, and the communication between computer and the radar sensor on CAN-BUS is realized by VB program, and simulating communication tests are realized. At last, the test equipment box is designed and made up.The simulating test results show that the rear-end collision warning system which controlled by computer can warn successfully and provide useful information to driver during various conditions.
