This paper studies the confirmation of the median safety lateral clearance of highway. Through making experiments on some typical highways which are being used now, the author collects different models of vehicles' speeds and their respective inner clearances when they are running on the overtaking lane, then analyzes and confirms the function relationship between various types of vehicles' inside clearances and speeds, researches the influence of curb's shapes on inner clearance. Then, the author puts up with the median safety inner clearance of highway from the safety angle, recommends the reasonably narrowest median model of highway. Finally, the author supplies technical guarantee for the improvement of the construction level of highways, provides the references for the establishment of "STANDARD" and "REGULATION".
