The advance of Science and the progress of techniques have brought huge transformation to traditional surveying and mapping work.Especially,with computer techniques being used world-wide,the kinds of surveying and mapping products are becoming more prolific.The researches on terrain simulation and those on groud feature simulation are two hotspots concerned in landform simulation.However,those researches on them are independent and neglect the relationship between them in actual applications,which leads to such anamorphic phenomenon as groud features are above or under the land's surface sometimes on large scale condition.This paper develops some trial studies about such question.It reviews the typic methods of modeling virtual terrain and the key techniques during modeling and the methods of modeling groud features,which prepares models for the merging of ground feature model and terrain model. And advances the merging precepts that ground features are independent on terrain and that ground features are dependent on terrain respectively,based on the dependence relationship of ground features and terrain.Especially,studies the arithmetic of the latter,including thoughts,steps,and program flows.Then,this paper expounds the methods and principles to evaluate the merging result.And introduces some precision indexes often used and uses these indexes to evaluate the merging result.Analysing the evaluatation,we gets the conclusion that for different geomorphy we should choose different grid-size which can make the result meets the precision requirement,and we also gets the maximal grid-size that can meets the precision requirement for some kind of geomorphy.So,you can choose a appropriate size of grid in your applications based on our conclusion.At last,the paper summarizes research productions and indicates the questions need to solve in future.
