In many signals transmission system, a digitized optic-fiber transmission has possessed not only character of digital signal, but also property of optical fiber transmission. It makes a beautiful future for wire-guided missiles when they combined together. This digitalized optical fiber transmission system is upstream line of the bi-directional optical fiber transmission system. It uses time-division multiplexing (TDM) technique combine multi-channel signals into one series data stream which be converted optic signal in the transmitter. Optic-electro convert and de-multiplexing technique be used in the receiver, the optic signal can be transmitted in the optical fiber.Called FOG-M, for wire-guided missile it uses wavelength-division-multiplexing to send signal in opposition direction, through the fiber. In one upstream line the fiber can send control signal from the ground-controller to the missile to its target. In other direction (downstream) the fiber can send image from a television camera in a missile to a soldier on the ground.Military agencies like FOG-M, because the soldier operating it is kept safe under cover or shelter. Missiles can be guided by optical fiber, only an optical fiber has the combination of small size, lightweight, strength, low attenuation and bandwidth needed to transmits signals a long distances range or more. For this reason, it has been one of the active studied areas around the world.
