Soft clays are widely distributed in coastland and inland plain. But, owing to the property of the soft clay, such as low strength, high compressibility, the foundation needs to be strengthened before the buildings are set up on it. Because of the advantages of prefabricated strip drain over other vertical drains, this technology is widely used in recent soft clay foundation improvement in our country and it has been a main method in drainage consolidation methods. But the theoretical research of it is lagged the practice, so the use of it is still in the period of experience.In this dissertation, based on the field data of using prefabricated plastic drains improving soft clay foundation of a certain section soft clay improving project in the GUANGZHOU UNIVERSITY CITY, the qualitative and quantitative analysis of many factors of theoretic calculation way used in prefabricated strip drain design preloading method were done, which could be a reference to choose the theoretic calculation way in other projects. At the same time, the applicability and error of different methods used in prefabricated strip drain to calculate final settlement based on the field settlement data and to calculate percent consolidation were compared in this dissertation. The results could be a reference in choosing the method of calculating settlement and percent consolidation and to evaluate the error of results in other projects and find out some rules of settlement.The author try to proof projection and guide to execution by analyzed consolidation and settlement computation and rules of settlement for the saturated clay. It will bring about definite economy and social benefit to the engineering appliance and offer objective case for making the advanced theoretical studies.
