A method of modeling in theory and numerical simulation for laser scattering characteristics of large scale and complex military target is studied, in which a method of geometric modeling is put forward, as well as a modularization designing with 3D modeling is realized. Thereby, a 3D geometric model for a chaser is demonstrated by using this method. The parametric model theory on Bi-directional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF) of target is put forward in studying for target laser scattering characteristics. Comparing with pure analyzing calculating in theory, the method of parametric modeling provides with a simple form in describing roughness surface BRDF , easier calculation, especially remedying the lack of experiment measuring. The BRDF parametric models for three kind of samples of ship are demonstrated in the range of 1.06 V- m, a comparison of this parametric model with the experimental results shows that both results are in agreement well.On the basis of parametric model theory and optimized results, adapted integral step algorithm is put forward in calculating for large scale and complex target optical scattering, the algorithm will shorten the time of calculating and provide the efficiency of calculating in the comparison of fixed integral step algorithm. It can not only apply in calculating of target optical scatting, but also in modeling and simulating for microwave scattering characteristics of complex target. Aiming to laser guidance aero-bomb weapon system, a numerical simulation for laser scattering characteristics of ship is performed in the range of 1.06 u m by using this method. The results of simulation have a good application in the research of weapon system.
